St. Mary's Veterans Day Parade

November 11th
8am-9am Meet at Leonardtown Middle School
10am-12pm Veterans Day Parade in Leonardtown Square

We will be supporting our service members and veterans in the St. Mary's County Veteran's Day Parade. Our parade is consistently one of the largest Veteran's Day parades in Maryland, and is followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.

To march with us in the parade, you can sign up at this link
We will be meeting between 8:00am and 9:00 am at Leonardtown Middle School (not in Leonardtown Square, the location of the parade). A bus will take you to the parade staging area, where we will line up, and the parade will begin at 10:00am. We expect the parade to end around 12:00pm or so. We would like to request that you wear a blue or white shirt, or you can buy a St. Mary's Democrat's T-shirt here. If you served in one of the Armed Forces, feel free to wear your uniform instead! If you would like to march with us as a candidate, please keep in mind that the parade organizers have requested that nothing be thrown or distributed along the parade route.

If you cannot walk the entire length of the parade, you can still join us at any point while we are walking.

Officers and committee chairs will be giving updates on our progress, and we'll also be presenting information on what offices will be on the ballot in November 2018. We'll also be hearing from Senator Rich Madeleno, who is one of the Democrats running for Maryland Governor.

51st US National Oyster Festival

October 21-22

We will be operating a booth at the Oyster Festival-- connecting with our community, answering questions about the Democratic party, and helping our candidates get the word out about their campaigns! You can sign up to volunteer here, or e-mail Jayne Walsh at

NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Banquet

Saturday, October 21, 6pm
Leonardtown Fire Department Social Hall
Tickets: $60 each by October 14.

Our Maryland Senator, Ben Cardin, will be attending. The Banquet is the primary source of funding for our local NAACP chapter, and the work they do is critically important for our community. The Banquet will feature good food, dancing, and a keynote from Gregory Wims.

Precinct Captain Training

Sunday, November 5th, 1:15pm
Lexington Park Library

This is one of our most important efforts; the Precinct Captain Program is grass roots organizing at its best and most effective. Precinct Captains will connect with registered voters in their neighborhoods and listen to the people of our community. There are all sorts of ways to get involved with our campaign committee-- if you'd like to learn more, contact our Campaign Committee Chair Laura Hart at This training event will focus on how to effectively use the tools to make being a precinct or block captain straightforward and easy.
