Happy February!

This month we’ll celebrate Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, and everyone’s favorite holiday, “Filing Deadline Day” on February 22nd!

The deadline to file for public office is February 22nd. Consider making a difference in our community by running for one of the offices listed above! We’re also looking for Democrats who want to help build the local party by running for the Democratic Central Committee.

We recently sent out a Call to Action to inspire the community to help us change the tide locally.

This is your chance to make a difference, so reach out to us at [email protected] for more information!

Read on for more updates!

Democratic Central Committee

On Feburary 4th Brandon Russell, 2nd Vice Chair for the Central Committee, filed to run for County Commissioner - District Two.

I’m running to represent everyone, to bring all ideas to the table, to have an open discussion about what is going right and what is going wrong locally. I welcome everyone to the conversation, no matter their party–together we are more,” Russell said on his Facebook Page.

Save the date! This year our Skipjack Gala fundraiser will be on April 8th at Historic St. Mary’s City! We’ve got a great event planned and can’t wait to see everyone in person in April. More details will be announced as the event draws near.

We’re looking for nominations for Democrat of the Year. Fill out this form to nominate a local Democrat for this award!

The Primary Election is just five months away on June 28th, with the General Election just ten months away on November 8th! We’re going to need all the help we can get to build a strong and successful democratic presence in St. Mary’s County. One of the easiest ways you can help is to join our recurring donor program, Skipjack Circle.

Members have already enjoyed exclusive benefits (read more here: https://www.stmarysdemocrats.org/skipjack_circle) over the past year–so don’t miss out! One of the perks for donors at the Potomac and Chesapeake Levels are tickets to the Skipjack Gala–so join now ahead of the Gala this April! Visit our donation page to join, and don’t forget to make your donation recur monthly!

We’re also seeking a volunteer coordinator to help organize and motivate our awesome volunteers during the election year! Interested in lending your skills to the cause? Email us at [email protected] with your resume and a brief introduction–we’re looking forward to speaking with you!

I Am St. Mary’s

IAMSTMARYS Democratic Women of St. Mary’s held a general meeting on January 26 to start off this election year. It was well attended and participants were treated to an energetically delivered Stacey Abrams interview. She is an inspiration for how she turned GEORGIA. Afterwards we placed our Zoommates in discussion groups to brainstorm what and how to support our local candidates during the upcoming election season. All ideas and needs are recorded and will be shared with members at the February meeting.

February 28 – The next general meeting of IAMSTMARYS, Democratic Women of St. Mary’s is Monday, February 28, at 6:00 pm. At this time, we plan to meet via Zoom. Topics include the January idea list, local issues, our annual Spring community service project, and GOTV activities in our county for upcoming 2022 elections.

Contact us via [email protected] if you are interested in more information or interested in joining Democratic Women.
