Delegate Matt Morgan has once again made it clear that his priorities lie with political grandstanding rather than delivering real solutions for the people of St. Mary’s County.
Whether he’s cheerleading for Donald Trump’s reckless policies or pushing legislation that would gut public transit and shift the financial burden onto working-class Marylanders, one thing is certain—Morgan’s agenda is out of step with the needs of our community.
In recent weeks, he has praised chaos in Washington, downplayed job losses among federal workers—many of whom call St. Mary’s home—and doubled down on policies that would make transportation less accessible and more expensive for working families. His proposed House Bill 695 is a perfect example of his misguided approach: rather than securing stable, long-term transportation funding, he seeks to cut transit funding, eliminate gas tax indexing, and force Marylanders who rely on buses, commuter rail, and local transit to shoulder even more of the cost. Meanwhile, critical road and bridge projects remain stalled, leaving motorists and commuters alike with fewer options and deteriorating infrastructure.
The people of St. Mary’s County deserve better. They deserve a leader who works across the aisle to pass meaningful legislation, not someone who plays partisan games while essential projects are left unfunded. They deserve a delegate who fights for economic security, reliable transportation, and better jobs—not one who shrugs off federal worker layoffs as an inevitability. They deserve a consensus builder in Annapolis, not a mouthpiece for the extreme right.
St. Mary’s County isn’t a backdrop for ideological grandstanding—we are a community of hardworking people who need real leadership. Delegate Morgan’s time would be better spent actually delivering results for St. Mary’s County instead of fanning the flames of division and pushing policies that make life harder for everyday Marylanders.
